Variety: FAST Will Replace Subscription Streaming as Viewers’ Choice by 2030

Paul Epstein recently wrote for Variety on the rise of FAST TV – and how it's poised to overtake subscription-based models in the near future.

He argues that bloated cable bundles and fragmented streaming platforms will not solve TV's decline; instead, it is FAST TV that will bring studios and streamers out of their slump. FAST offers the familiarity of the old-school cable bundle, brings back the anticipation of scheduled programming, and makes TV accessible. It doesn't have the unbreakable monthly subscriptions that have afflicted viewers for years.

Paul also believes that FAST will replace subscription-based models as the preferred viewing option by 2030. Access to top streaming services now costs more than cable, and – if the "great unsubscribe" of 2022 shows anything – it is that viewers would rather spend their money elsewhere. FAST is the future – and industry executives need to take the time to maximize their chance at making it better than ever.
